On 27 November 2018 the 4th edition of the annual Conference LUMEN 2018 - Leaders in University Management for the university leaders was held in Warsaw. The main organizer of the LUMEN conference is the PCG Academia. The honorary patronage of the Conference was given by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Science and Higher Education of Poland Jarosław Gowin, and other institutions. Substantive contribution to the conference was ensured by the Polish Rectors Foundation.
The topic for LUMEN 2018 was the practical aspects of the implementation of the new Law Act on Higher Education and Science (Act 2.0), including the issues connected with changes in the governing structure in Polish universities. The conference after welcome part was opened by the main plenary debate on the challenges and chances of the new law, moderated by prof. Jerzy Woźnicki. The following panellists from the main stakeholder institutions debated in the first plenary – Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Piotr Müller, President of the Polish Accreditation Committee prof. Krzysztof Diks, President of the National Council of Science and Higher Education prof. Zbigniew Marciniak, President of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland prof. Jan Szmidt.
Other plenary sessions were dedicated to the discussions of the reform implementation from the perspective of the third mission of the universities, new scientific disciplines and academic career development, as well as universities’ merges and federations.
New to the LUMEN 2018 was organising of two parallel thematic sections: strategic university management and project management, dedicated to university leaders and professionals engaged into operational management.
